Child Life Specialist at Children’s Hospital University of Illinois

An extremely busy woman, Lindsay is able to utilize Bounce as an extremely helpful tool in healing outside the hospital.

“Kids want to be normal and fit in, and Bounce gives them that outlet. When Bounce brings chronically ill children together for fun and learning, they realize they’re not alone.”

As Child Life Specialist at Children’s Hospital University of Illinois, Lindsay Cousins has the challenge of juggling multiple tasks. Helping children cope and stay distracted at the hospital, covering 46 ped beds, and dealing with any bereavement issues means Lindsay’s time is valuable. But she takes the time to introduce her patients to Bounce, a critical tool that can help these children outside the hospital.

“Bounce is critical to my patients because it gives them a healing outlet outside the hospital. Kids want to be normal and fit in. When Bounce brings chronically ill children together for fun activities and learning, they realize they’re not alone.”

Lindsay knows that Bounce helps kids cope and heal because she hears it directly from her patients and their families. “My sickle cell anemia patients have an extra tough time when it’s cold. It’s so hard for them to find accessible fun activities indoors. Bounce Bash® family adventures really keep them going during the long Chicago winters!.”

Bounce is an essential program that helps children continue healing outside of their hospital and doctor’s visits, and Lindsay highly recommends Chicago area families join. She notes, “There aren’t any other resources that allow families to be together the way Bounce does. The kids and parents come together, forget about being sick, and remember what’s important. In the hospital children and families are taken care of but at home they’re on their own. And my patients often don’t have the funds or means to create outings of their own.”

By allowing children to simply be kids, Bounce provides a valuable coping and healing service to families in the Chicago area. And, thanks to partners like Lindsay, more and more families are discovering the good we do.
